RedSharks go 2 for 2

The D. Park Red Sharks has continued with their try scoring feisty with a 68-6 defeat over the GC Foster Angels at the GC Foster College on July 10, 2010. The RedSharks rest eight of their first team players to look at various combinations and to experiment with players who have been out of the squad for a while. The game got off to a fast start with the GC Angels completing impressive 3 sets before the Sharkies could comfortably get their hands on the ball.

The Angels were quick and decisive and they made some telling runs through the RedSharks defense in the early exchange. Having not scored however lead to their frustration and the Sharkies used this to their advantage as they opened the scoring through impressive schoolboy debutant Fabian “Tino” Turner. Turner ran unto a long pass from scrumhalf Roy Calvert before turning his opponent inside out to dive over the tryline to score his first of what is hoped to be many 4 pointers throughout his career.

The Sharkies continued to dominate the half through telling runs from bad boy Ricardo Bair and the ever improving Damion Clarke. Constant drop balls however prevented the RedSharks from totaling pulling away during the first half. The GC Angels got one back after one of their many speedsters pounced on a wayward pass and sped 50 metres for their only try of the match.

The second half was much of the same as Andre “Reido” Redi and Turner got their hat tricks and Ryan “National” Grant got his second brace in as many games.

“The scoreline doesn’t reflect the competitiveness of the GC Angels team”, said Sharks skipper Calvert after the game. “They are a real intense team and they put us under a lot of pressure which resulted in us knocking on the ball more than usual, against a more experienced team we would have suffered”.
